Crowns
A crown is a routine dental procedure provided at our office. The crown (sometimes called a cap) is placed directly over a decayed or broken tooth in order to restore the strength and appearance of a natural tooth. Crowns are not just cosmetic procedures. They can save teeth that have decayed or damaged, and are also used as anchors to support bridges or dentures. Crowns can be made up of many different materials, including porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and full metal crowns. Crowns require two visits to complete at our office. During the initial visit, Dr. Long will prepare the tooth for the crown, which takes about one hour. He will then cover the tooth with a temporary crown, which will be worn until the permanent crown is delivered. Two weeks later, during your second visit, Dr. Long will remove the temporary and place the final, permanent crown on the tooth.
